All Systems Red by Martha Wells (The Murderbot Diaries #1)

All Systems Red by Martha Wells

In the future, vast solar system spanning corporations control the majority of the galaxy. Anyone who wants to explore new worlds must get approval from these establishments, and use only company approved equipment. That’s how we meet our main character, Murderbot; not a space faring hero or daring scientist. No, Murderbot is the company approved Security Unit (SEC Unit), its only wish is to be left alone to watch its favorite TV shows, and find new media to obsess over. It doesn’t like dealing with humans, but it has a job as a rental SEC Unit and the job, unfortunately, means it has to listen and occasionally talk to humans. What seems to be a routine mission soon goes awry, when attacks from alien creatures and technology threaten the lives of Murderbot’s bonded clients. This book is a hilarious and action-packed space adventure, with enough fight scenes and snarky humor to satisfy even the pickiest of science fiction readers.  Part of a five-novella series, you’ll easily blast your way through The Murderbot Diaries series, available at your local Santa Clarita Public Library.
