The Parent-Teacher Enrichment Resource Center is housed in the Valencia branch of the City of Santa Clarita Public Library. The center is a collection of educational resources which addresses the needs of home educators and all parents and teachers seeking to enrich their students’ educational growth.
Parent-Teacher Enrichment Resource Center Fall Courses - Registration begins August 6, 2012
What will I find in the Resource Center?
The Resource Center opened in March 2012 with a collection reflecting the outcomes of parent surveys and focus groups. This initial collection includes books for adults about teaching subject areas, California state standards, educational choices, learning differences, classical education, and more. Items for student use include subject area activity books, art prints, and test-preparation materials. Supplementing the library’s extensive children’s fiction collection, the Resource Center also carries hard-to-find titles from various curricular reading lists. Non-fiction materials for children and youth are selected specifically to support curricular standards and to extend student interest and engagement.
Resource Center materials complement the library’s general collection of fiction, non-fiction, audiovisual, and online resources. For example, the information needed for a history unit can be found on the non-fiction shelves of the library and in our extensive database offerings; additional items from the Resource Center will enrich the learning experience with student activity suggestions and teacher support.
While we do not provide textbooks for an academic term, sampling a textbook during a library loan period can help you determine what you would like to purchase.
How do I use the Resource Center?
You will need a library card to borrow materials. Everyone in the family can easily obtain a library card by registering online. Adults need to bring picture identification when picking up cards at any City of Santa Clarita Public Library branch. Check out Resource Center materials just as you would check out other library materials. Books are loaned for three weeks, and DVDs are loaned for one week. Renewal policies are the same for Resource Center materials as they are for all library materials.
For family browsing, the collection is arranged on shelves by subject area, rather than by grade level or material type. To search the catalog specifically for Resource Center items, go to Advanced Search, and choose Santa Clarita Parent Teacher Resource Center in the Location box. Materials can be requested for pick-up at all three library branches.
How can I participate in the future of the Resource Center?
