A new chapter for the Santa Clarita Public Library!
On July 1, 2018 the Santa Clarita Public Library transitioned its services to in-house staffing with City-hired employees (previously a contracted service). How does this change benefit you? Read more to find out.
What are the Benefits?
Locally Managed: Previously, the Santa Clarita Public Library used a shared catalog system which was run by the contracting service, however, with the transition, we will now have our own catalog managed locally. This will give us more control over the database system and which books we purchase – which we will base off the needs of our community. By improving the collection development and acquisition process, we believe the need for interlibrary loans will decrease.
Accurate Information: The new catalog will also be more accurate. In the last months library staff have meticulously performed an inventory of the materials at our branches and have worked to review the data in the system to make sure we have up-to-date records. The catalog will be reflective of the items we have!
Shorter Wait Times: In addition, we will also have local delivery of materials twice a day, six days a week between the branches, which should cut down the wait time for items to arrive when a hold is placed.
If there are items you are looking for, please let us know so that we can purchase the items for you or work to find another way to meet your needs. We encourage you to submit a purchase. We also provide the option of conducting an InterLibrary Loan request for you, or providing a SCILNET card that provides access to other local libraries.
